U.S. EMBASSY DUSHANBE DELIVERS MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO SOGHD REGIONAL CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
Dushanbe, Tajikistan. On March 30, in an ongoing effort to mitigate the effects of disease, and to strengthen the health care system for all citizens of Tajikistan, U.S. Ambassador Jacobson and Project Hope delivered more than one million dollars worth of medical supplies to the Sughd Regional Children’s Hospital. The medical supplies include antibiotics, gastro-intestinal medicine, Tylenol, Children’s Motrin, anti-allergic ointments and psychiatric drugs. This is one of three shipments that private U.S. companies donate to Tajikistan annually and represents only a portion of a larger shipment worth 14 million dollars, which will be donated to 15 different hospitals in Tajikistan this month.
Health care is an important area of cooperation between the United States and Tajikistan. The United States signed an agreement with the Ministry of Health in 2001 and in the following six years, the U.S. Embassy has worked closely with Project Hope to provide almost $135 million worth of medicine, supplies and equipment to Tajik medical institutions. It would not be possible without the support and donations of U.S. pharmaceutical companies: GlaxoSmithKline, Merck, Bristol-Myers-Squibb, Abbot, Lilly, Johnson and Johnson, McNeil, King, Vista, Janssen, Rosner/Medfil, and Alcon.
