The Development Gateway Foundation
www.dgfoundation.org
The Development Gateway Foundation’s mission is to reduce poverty and support sustainable development through the use of information and communication technologies. The Development Gateway is a not-for-profit organization, currently based in Washington DC and governed by a Board of Directors representing Founding Members and other donors. Alan Rossi is the CEO.
To achieve its mission, the Foundation is engaged in a range of practical programs and projects
to…
…improve public sector transparency
Global online dgMarket provides turnkey state-of-the-art e-tendering solutions to partners and governments in developing countries. dgMarket fosters government transparency and efficiency, and contributes to local economic development by enabling small and medium enterprises to participate in procurement opportunities worldwide. To rapidly develop and deploy promising e-government applications and activities in developing countries, the Development Gateway and the Government of Italy have established an E-Government
Program.
…enable aid effectiveness
An exclusive feature of the Development Gateway portal, the AiDA (Accessible Information on Development Activities) database is the largest online source of information on development projects in the world. By providing timely access to project information from key donors, AiDA helps increase transparency and enhances collaboration among global development partners. The information partners for AiDA use standards for information sharing, thus facilitating the expansion of the database and reducing duplication of efforts. The Development Gateway portal addresses pressing issues by providing a platform to exchange ideas and coordinate activities.
…increase knowledge sharing
With more than 60,000 registered individuals, the Development Gateway portal is the preeminent source for resources on sustainable development and poverty reduction. To help improve collaboration among development practitioners and facilitate the exchange of information, the portal builds interactive communities around key development topics. The Foundation’s annual Development Gateway Forum brings together global leaders to share experiences to improve development impact. And the Development Gateway’s Training Center in the Republic of Korea offers courses on applying ICT-related public policies and disseminating new technologies.
…empower local communities
The network of 44 Country Gateways are locally-owned partnership-based initiatives that pursue the Development Gateway’s mission locally. From Argentina to the West Bank & Gaza, Country Gateways build local capacity, improve access to knowledge, and foster innovation for local economic and social development. The Development Gateway portal can provide platforms for dialogue among a variety of local individuals and organizations. dgMarket includes national procurement portals in local languages, supporting tender and procurement opportunities that may be of interest to local suppliers. In addition, the Development Gateway’s Research Center in India conducts applied research activities to develop tools and solutions that make ICT more accessible to local communities.
